Short and easy trek to discover the rural beauty of Nepal and experience the magic of the Annapurna region. The Phanchase trek is a very pleasurable hike that is accessible by trekkers of all age groups and fitness levels. Panchase village is a beautiful village that lies in the west of Pokhara city. It is one of the hill stations in the Annapurna Region and the summit of Panchase Hill is often considered to be the viewpoint to see the Annapurna massif. Panchase, meaning Pancha: five, Aasan: seats, is a point of five hills where they meet on the top. Covered with the lush green forest it has diverse flora and fauna.

The low-altitude trek, the Panchase trek is an ideal way to explore the area around Pokhara as it is very close to Pokhara. The trek leads you through a forest area, through rich farmlands encountering a farmhouse and buffalo sheds dot the mountainside. Despite being low-altitude trekking, the Panchase trek offers excellent panoramic mountain views. Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Lamjung, and Manaslu with other peaks are stunning from here. Trekkers also get an opportunity to enjoy the panoramic sunrise and sunset over the beautiful mountains.

The Panchase trek takes you through a variety of landscapes including paddy fields, forests, and grasslands, with undulating terrain to navigate. Panchase Trek’s highest point, Panchase Bhanjyang (2,500m/8,202ft), offers breathtaking views of mighty Annapurna ranges. The trek begins with a peaceful boat ride across Phewa Lake. A significant portion of the Panchase area is covered by sub-tropical and temperature-mixed evergreen forests, as well as pasture land. You may spot various species of rhododendrons and orchids wile trekking, along with a chance to witness wildlife and birds. Amidst happy chirping birds, walkthrough lush green pastures to spot wildlife like leopards, bears, jackals, forest cats, and monkeys.

Your Journey, Step by Step

Day 1: Boat across Phewa Tal- Trek to Bhumdi (1,520m/4,970ft)

The short Panchase Trek starts after boating across Phewa Lake – the starting point of the trek. From there we first climb through the lush forest and lead to the World Peace Pagoda. This Pagoda is one of 80 Buddhist peace pagodas worldwide. These pagodas were built in an attempt to promote world peace and unite people from all over the world.

After exploring Pagoda, we trek through the forest on small walking trails with a stunning view. Then we climb back up to join an open trail. Following the trail, we pass through the village of Lukum Swara. And a final climb takes us to Bhumdi village. Bhumdi is home to the Gurung and Brahman people. From Bhumdi, you can see the spectacular mountain views. The view of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Hiunchuli, and Annapurna ranges is amazing from here. Overnight at Bhumdi

Day 2: Trek from Bhumdi to Panchase Bhanjyang (2,500m/8,202ft)

Leaving Bhumdi, we ascend through a beautiful forest. While trekking through this trail you get a glimpse of the mountains through the trees. You will have the best day if you are a nature lover. As the path winds and you can hear birds vice above you may see some monkey. On the way, you pass through a variety of flora and fauna. You can see enough birdlife, monkeys, orchids, and many plants. Reaching Panchase hill station, you will have a splendid view of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Tukuche Peak (6,920m), Nilgiri (6,940m), Varaha Shikhar (7,847m), Mt. Annapurna South (7,219m), Mt. Annapurna III (7,855m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), Annapurna lV (7,525m), Annapurna ll (7,937m), Lamjung Himal (6,931m). Overnight at Panchase Bhanjyang.

Day 3: Trek from Panchase Bhanjyang to Bhadaure (1,670m/5,461ft) 6 hours

In the morning after having breakfast, we climb up to the Panchase peak at an altitude of 2500m. Or you can get up earlier and ascend to have an amazing sunrise view over the mountains. After enjoying the view, our trail descends downhill to the far side of Alledanda Hill. Then we will have a gentle walk rewarded reaching the town of Bhadaure. Here we can enjoy the beautiful experience with the mix of cultures and traditions. There is a range of residents including Brahmin, Gurung, and Kami people. Overnight at Bhadaure.

Day 4: Trek from Bhadaure to Naudanda (1,515m /4,954ft)- Drive to Pokhara

With the beautiful morning in Bhadaure, we will have a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we started our last trek to Naudanda. We first descent downhill passing stone steps to the town of Bhadaure. Then we continue on the off-road that takes you across a small stream and through tiny villages. After reaching Naudanda, we will have lunch. Here you get the chance to interact with locals. Continuing the trail, we reach Naudanda. From Naudanda the trail joins with the Baglung highway. Here, our car will be waiting for pickup. And from Naudanda we will have a drive to Pokhara. On reaching Pokhara you will have lunch and rest. Later you can stroll around the city.     Best Time for Panchase Trek

    The Panchase trek can be accessed in all seasons however two seasons are considered peak seasons featuring stable weather, pleasant temperature, and good visibility of mountain views. The two seasons are the Autumn season (September – November) and the Spring season (March – May).

    The temperatures in the Spring and Autumn seasons range around 12 to 26 degrees Celsius. Both the seasons, feature warm days, bluish skies, good sunlight, and more visibility, making the perfect time for trekking in a stable and calm route. The blooming rhododendron flowers, green landscapes, and transparent mountains are the rewards if trekked in the Spring season. Therefore, the Spring and Autumn seasons welcome hundreds of people across the globe for Khopra Danda trekking.

    The Panchase trek also can be accessed during Summer (June – August) and Winter (December – February). The trekking trails can be slippery, muddy, and wet due to the regular rainfall during summer whereas the challenges may come as snowfall during winter. However, if you are interested and ready to face any challenges, the Panchase trek is accessible with great preparation like adding more days with heavy clothes, and necessary equipment for rainy and snowy seasons.

    Distance and Elevation

    Panchase Hill lies at an elevation of 2,500 meters from 1,520 meters at Bhumdi which tells us of its diverse topography. The mountain ranges of Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167m/26,794ft), Mt Annapurna (8,091m/26,545ft), Mt Manaslu (8,163m/26,781ft), and Mt Ganesh (7,422m/24,350ft) can be seen from Panchase. The whole trekking trail covers around 30 kilometers/18.6 miles from Pokhara, making it one of the most attractive trekking destinations in the scenic city.

    Other Facilities

    Electricity

    A complete service of electricity is available at the teahouses or lodges during trekking trails. They offer charging sockets and power supplies but charging electronics like mobile phones and cameras may require some additional charges.

    Mobile Networking and Internet

    The Internet facilities are available on the Panchase Trek, and NTC (Nepal Telecom) and Ncell provide affordable data packages for full networking on most of the trekking trails. Most trekking lodges and tea houses offer internet access for a fee via WiFi routers by paying some extra fees.

    Drinking Water

    Along the Panchase trekking trail, bottled or mineral water is available at teahouses and lodges. Besides this, tap water is also available but it is recommended to use a water purifier before drinking. We suggest trekkers carry at least 3 to 4 water bottles for refilling purposes.

    ATM facilities

    ATMs are not readily available on the Panchase trekking trail. Make sure to bring enough Nepalese cash (Nepalese Rupees) with you before embarking on your trek. Before starting the trek, you get the last opportunity to withdraw cash in Pokhara.
