Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is one and only area in Nepal with licensed hunting. Hunting reserve covers the total area of 1,325 sq. km established in 1987 A.D. This reserve is spread over Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung including world seventh highest mountains Mt Dhaulagiri. With the majestic high Himalayan range and incredible beauty of nature, this hunting reserve ranges from 2,850 m up to 5,500 m from sea level. Reserve is highly influenced by alpine, sub-alpine and high temperate vegetation. Dhorpatan hunting reserve has diverse faunal vegetation which includes 18 species of mammals, 137 species of birds and 2 species of reptiles. Some are named as snow leopard, red panda, blue sheep, Cheer pheasant, koklass pheasant and Impeyan pheasant are common. The Musk deer, Wolf, Red panda, Cheer pheasant and Danphe are some of the endangered species that the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve bears.
