The “2 PM rule” on Everest advises climbers to turn back by 2 PM to ensure a safe descent. Afternoon weather often turns dangerous, and fatigue at extreme altitudes makes coming down risky. Ignoring it increases the chance of accidents, so the rule helps climbers summit safely and avoid deadly delays.
