The hike from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel and Namobuddha is a popular 3-day trek around Kathmandu. This hike offers a great opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of hills and mountain ranges, as well as Buddhist stupas and gumbas. The main attraction of this hike is the beautiful sunrise and sunset views.


Nagarkot is famous for its sunrise and sunset views and covers a distance of around 26km (17 miles) with a height of 2,175m. From Nagarkot, the trek leads to Dhulikhel, which is around 15-16 km away and offers beautiful views of green hills and cities.


From the top of Dhulikhel hill (7,134 m), one can see around 20 peaks including Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m) and many others. The hike passes through colorful dense forests and offers majestic views of the Himalayas surrounding the traditional village of Namobuddha. The hike to Namobuddha is very famous for all Buddhist pilgrims where the massive Monastery and Namo Buddha temple lie.


The environment around the gumba is very clean and has fresh air. The hike trails pass through quiet forests, which will make you feel good. You can also see many different kinds of birds on the trail. It is popular for its bird-watching tour and Himalayan views. Nearly 72 species of residents and migratory birds are found in the forests of Namobuddha. Some birds that can be found on the Namobuddha Hill are Long Tailed, Shrike, Variable Wheatear, Scarlet Minivet, Common Iora, Common Hoopoe, Steppe Eagle, and Asian Black, and White Way Tail.

Nagarkot Dhulikhel Namobuddha Hiking Route

The Nagarkot Dhulikhel Namobuddha Hike typically starts from the Nagarkot, a hill station located about 32 kilometers east of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Itinerary

day-1

On the first day of our trek, we explored Nagarkot Hill and hiked to the Dhulikhel area. We will be driving around 1:30mins from the center of the Kathmandu to Nagarkot base area.


When we reach the base of Nagarkot, we will start our trek to explore the Nagarkot hill to Dhulikhel Nagarkot is a popular hill station with a height of 2175m. It lies around 26km from the center of Kathmandu, but we will be at the base of the hill so we will just explore the hill. It will take us around 2-3 hrs of a hike to reach the top of the hill. Nagarkot is a community of Newari people.


You can see the agriculture of Newari inhabitants on the way. You can have a taste of Newari food over here. We can see the beautiful view of the mountain ranges of Manaslu Range, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Himal Range, Rolwaling Range, and Everest Range from here.


We will hike to the Dhulikhel base area from here. It will take us around 4-5 hours to hike to Dhulikhel from Nagarkot Hill. It will be great to spend time in nature. The hike is not too difficult and we will enjoy the scenic views along the way. The trail is full of natural beauty. We can see different types of trees on the way.


When we will reach Dhulikhel we will have a great evening view of the city and beautiful hills with the sunset. There are many lodges/hotels in Dhulikhel to stay the night.

day-2

We will wake up early in the morning to get the fresh air. We will enjoy the morning with the beautiful view of the city and hills. We can see a lovely sunrise from there. We will do our mile and continue the trek to explore Dhulikhel Hill and the base of Namobuddha. Dhulikhel is one of the best easy trail hiking areas around Kathmandu.


Dhulikhel trails lead us to the beautiful greenery of hills and cities. The trail uphill of Dhulikhel is very enjoyable. We will walk 2-3 uphill to reach the top of the hill. It is famous for its scenic beauty and tradition, a lovely place. Dhulikhel offers numerous cultural attractions, the beauty of the traditional lifestyle, and the green vegetation which make Dhulikhel an ideal place to visit.


From the top of this hill, we can have a complete panoramic view of the snowy ranges of Annapurna range, Langtang, Choba Bhamre, Gaurishanker, Number Karyolung, etc. After exploring Dhulikhel hill, we will hike towards the Namobuddha. It will take us around 4-5 hours to reach the base of Namobuddha from Dhulikhel. We will have a great evening with a wonderful view of the sunset. We will stay overnight at the Namobuddha hotel\lodges at the end of the second day.

day-3

Early in the morning, we will wake up to see a beautiful view of sunrise from Namobuddha. The view of sunrise and Snowcap Mountain from the Namobuddha will be a memorable view for you. The environment and the clean surroundings are very good for mental health. We will have our meal and continue our trek to explore Namobuddha hill.


Namo Buddha is an ancient and famous Buddhist monastery hill situated at the height of 1800m. It is also the best place for hiking in Kathmandu Valley. Namobuddha is a cultural place where people worship Lord Buddha. The trail will make it easy to reach the top monastery of the hill. Half of the trails are very small roads so; there won’t be vehicles on the way.


The trails lead us to the quiet forest which has a peaceful environment. Namobuddha hike provides truly exciting Himalayan views and village hikes. Beautiful monasteries and enjoyable greenery trails make people go there for hiking. We need to go by the stairs to reach the top of Namobuddha. In clear weather, we can see the beautiful views of long-range mountains like Mt Everest and Langtang. After exploring the Namobuddha hill and visiting the monastery. We will return to Kathmandu and end this memorable trekking over here.
