After the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour and the Annapurna Base Camp Helicopter Tour, it is the third most popular helicopter tour in Nepal. The reason behind this is mainly because of its religious significance.

If you have a passion, for thrilling and adventurous flights the Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour in Nepal is a choice. Moreover, it offers a tranquil and pristine setting surrounded by the snow covered Himalayas. It is worth mentioning that Gosaikunda Lake holds significance in Nepal and holds a special place, in the hearts of both Buddhists and Hindus.

The Gosainkunda Helicopter excursion is the way to experience a helicopter tour and get a close view of the Langtang Himalayan range. What makes it even better is that it is cost-effective and requires less time when starting from Kathmandu.

Gosaikunda Lake

Langtang National Park in Nepal is home to the alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake known as Gosaikunda. It is situated between Helambu, Langtang Valley, and Langtang National Park to the north of Kathmandu. According to the measurement, the distance from Kathmandu city is 43 (kilometers). It is situated in the Rasuwa District at an elevation of 4380 meters (14370 feet). The lake is 13.8 hectares in size (34 acres). The Gosaikunda Lake complex, which includes related lakes, spans 1030 hectares (2500 acres) and was recognized as a Ramsar site in 2007. During the winter, the lake stays frozen until it melts to produce the Trishuli River. But there are benefits to living in the winter.

The snow-covered surroundings make up for a heavenly experience at Gosaikunda Lake if you happen to travel during winter. Regardless of the seasons, the Gosaikunda Lake has something unique to offer each season as there are other 108 lakes in the vicinity. Moreover, the Lauri Binayak Pass at an elevation of 4610 m (15120 ft) falls right on its outskirts.

Religious Importance of Gosaikunda

Due to a historical belief linking the lake to Lord Shiva, the Hindu mythological deity of force and destruction, this place is also well-known for its sacred lake in Nepalese society. The majority of people think that Lord Shiva bathed in this lake to achieve soul purity after spending several years in meditation in the Himalayas of Nepal and Tibet. Hindus thus perform similar rites in order to atone for their numerous misdeeds and purify their spirits. In August, the full moon day falls in the month of Shrawan. The people of Nepal celebrate the Janai-Purnima, one of their most popular festivals, and Gosaikunda appears to be crowded with devotees on that day.

Hindus celebrate this day with a religious gathering, known as the Nepali Carnival while the Buddhist community also takes part in the festivities. Prior, to replacing their Janais, which is a thread worn by Hindu Brahmins on their bodies or wrists the pilgrims who gather at this gathering immerse themselves in devotion, to Lord Shiva. This signifies that they believe the pure water of this lake has washed away their sins, sorrows, and hardships.

Lord Shiva is said to have formed Gosaikunda Lake when he drove his Trishula (Trident) into a mountain to get water out of it to soothe his toxic throat.  People continue to think that the enormous rock beside the lake is a Shiva shrine. There is another who says that those with a pure soul can see Lord Shiva's reflection beneath the river. Samudra Manthan is mentioned in the Hindu scriptures Vishnu Purana, Bhagavata Purana, and the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana as having a direct connection to the beginning of Gosaikunda and providing a very clear explanation. Compared to other religions, this one has greater religious significance for Hindus and continues to persuade them in a favorable way.

This region is home to 108 kundas, or lakes, the most well-known of which are Saraswati, Bhairab, Surya, Naga, and Gosikunda, which are believed to be particularly beloved by pilgrims. Nonetheless, Gosaikunda Lake is a sacred site for both Buddhists and Hindus, drawing pilgrims from all around the nation—including Hindus from India—every year to partake in a sacred plunge in the lake.
