Your Journey, Step by Step

Best Time to Explore Serengeti National Park

The optimal time to visit Serengeti National Park largely depends on individual interests. All the seasons and their highlights are broken down here:

Dry Season (June to October)

The period, from June to October known as the season, is a time for viewing wildlife and partaking in adventurous activities. During this period, when vegetation is limited and animals gather around water sources, going on game drives affords the opportunity to witness the Big Five and the famed Great Migration. Specifically, from June to September the Mara River crossings during the migration offer spectacular scenarios of survival and predators looking for victims. The weather during this season tends to be colder and dryer making safaris comfortable; yet, mornings and nights may have a chill, in the air.

Wet Season (November to May)

During the season, which stretches from November to May, the Serengeti changes to a verdant and colorful landscape. The park thrives under the nourishing rains, resulting in greenery and beautiful wildflowers that beautify the plains. This period is particularly enthralling for photography fans and bird connoisseurs, as it presents a backdrop loaded with bird species and stunning scenery, allowing unlimited opportunity to take mesmerizing shots. Additionally, during January to March, the southern Serengeti becomes a focus for a phenomenon known as the calving season. During this season, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest give birth attracting predators and uncovering the intensity of life and death in its form, amidst nature’s untamed beauty.
