Day 1

Begin the 1-day hike

Early in the morning, after breakfast, our guide will pick you up from your hotel if it is located within a 4 km radius of Thamel and drive to Shivapuri National Park. Guests staying outside this area will need to reach the pickup point in Thamel on their own.

The distance from Thamel to Shivapuri National Park is approximately 12-14 km. After an hour of driving, we reach the Shivapuri National Park Entrance gate.

After arriving at the Shivapuri National Park entrance gate, we complete the permit process. The hike takes around 5-7 hours, depending on your pace and frequency of breaks.

The hike begins through the Muhan Pokhari with dense forest paths leading towards Nagi Gumba. Along the way, you can enjoy the rich biodiversity, spot local birds, and take in the peaceful surroundings.

There are limited shops along the trail, so you will need to carry your own snacks or a packed lunch with you. On the trail, you can take short breaks at scenic viewpoints, hydrate and enjoy light snacks.

Then, the hike continues uphill toward Shivapuri Peak (2,732m / 8,964 feet), the highest point of the day. At the summit, explore the area and enjoy panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and distant Himalayan peaks.

Have a packed lunch while soaking in the scenery. Then, begin hiking back down the same trail toward the trailhead, taking short breaks as needed and enjoying the forested path.

Reach the trailhead and drive back to Kathmandu. You will then be dropped off back at your hotel or pickup point, marking the end of the Shivapuri Hike day trip.
