Route Map & Altitude Chart of Manaslu Circuit Trek with Larke La Pass

Good to Know
Your Journey, Step by Step
Preparation
Preparation for the trek is all about getting your body, gear, and mindset ready for changing altitude and simple mountain conditions.
A moderate level of fitness is helpful, as you’ll be walking for several hours a day on uneven trails with both ascents and descents. Regular walking, light hiking, or cardio training before the trek makes the journey more comfortable.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is highly recommended for trekking in the Manaslu region. It should clearly cover high-altitude trekking (usually up to at least 5,000-6,000 meters), as well as emergency helicopter evacuation, which can be very expensive in remote mountain areas.
Make sure your policy includes medical treatment, trip cancellation or delay, and loss or damage of baggage and trekking gear. Since the trail is remote and weather can change quickly, evacuation coverage is especially important.
Before starting the trek, carry a digital and printed copy of your insurance details, and share them with your trekking agency or guide so they can act quickly in case of an emergency.
Best Season for Manaslu Circuit Trek
There are two best seasons: Autumn(September, October, November) and Spring(March, April, May).
Spring brings blooming rhododendrons and greener landscapes, while autumn is known for crystal-clear skies after the monsoon and ideal visibility of Manaslu and surrounding peaks. Temperatures are moderate, which makes long trekking days more enjoyable.
Accommodations & Food
While trekking the Manaslu Circuit, accommodation is primarily in teahouses and lodges along the route. These local lodges offer basic but comfortable facilities, allowing trekkers to rest and enjoy the warm hospitality of the region.
- Tea Houses & Lodges
- Most villages along the trail have teahouses where trekkers can find beds, blankets, and meals.
- The quality varies: larger villages offer better facilities, while remote villages may have simpler rooms with shared bathrooms.
- Hot showers are sometimes available, usually for an additional charge.
- Camping Option
- Some trekking agencies provide camping packages, especially in very remote areas where tea houses are limited.
- Tents, sleeping bags, and meals are provided by the trekking agency.
- Food & Meals
- Meals at tea houses include Nepali staples like dal-bhat, noodles, soups, and momos.
- Prices are higher at remote locations, so carrying energy bars or snacks is recommended.
Drinking Water Facility
We suggest you drink 3-4 liters per day while you are at a high altitude. Some locals drink water directly from the tap, but we don’t recommend that trekkers drink water directly. You can purify tap water by using purification tablets or LifeStraws. You can purchase bottled water or boiled water from a tea house along the trekking route.
ATM facility in Trekking Routes
Most trekking packages in Nepal cover permits, accommodation, meals, and guide/porter services, but it’s important to carry some extra cash for personal expenses along the way.
Along the trail, almost everything runs on cash only. There are no ATMs in remote trekking areas like the Manaslu region.
Extra money is useful for things like hot showers, charging devices, snacks, bottled drinks, Wi-Fi in teahouses, tips for guides and porters, and small personal treats. It’s always better to carry enough Nepali rupees in small denominations before starting the trek, as banking facilities are not available once you leave the city.
Guide and Porters
Hiring a licensed guide is mandatory for the Manaslu region, as it is a restricted trekking area. A guide helps with navigation, permits, safety, and also adds valuable cultural insight into the villages and traditions along the route.
Porters are optional but highly recommended if you want a more comfortable trek. They carry your main luggage, allowing you to walk with just a light daypack. This makes long days on the trail much easier, especially at higher altitudes.
It’s important to treat guides and porters fairly, respect their work, and ensure they have proper gear, insurance, and fair wages. Tipping at the end of the trek is also a common and appreciated practice.
Weight limits for Porter
Porters carry a maximum weight of about 20 kg for 2 trekkers, so we suggest that our clients pack only the necessary items. Unnecessary items can be left in the Kathmandu Hotel or Office.
