Pathibhara Devi Temple is one of the most important temples in Nepal, located on the hill of Taplejung. It is also considered one of the sacred places for the Nepalese people where people offer animals and the gold, silver with a selfless act of compassion and prayer to please the goddess. The goddess is also known as Mukkumlung. Numerous people from different parts of the country as well as from India visit the temple during special occasions striving for spiritual fulfilment and blessings from the powerful goddess.

The journey to Pathibhara Devi is blended with the natural beauty and cultural experiences which makes the visit a unique and thrilling experience. The best season to trek is autumn (Sep-Oct-Nov) and spring (March-April-May).  The forest ecosystem along the way offers a diversity of birds, wildlife and flowers. The entire Kanchanjunga range can be seen in this trek.  Devotees can also visit monasteries situated in Olangchung Gola and Lungchung. The falls at Sawa and the pond of Timbung during autumn and spring are worth visiting every year. A week-long journey passes through traditional villages of Taplejung, such as; Phurunga, Likhim, Khewang, Tellok, Phawakhola and Mamankhe add more beauty to this trek. From the Pathibhara hill, the view of the beautiful gorges and gorges formed by the silver-shining mountain range to the north is mesmerizing. Kanchanjunga and Kumbhakarna can be seen right in front of the eyes while the other mountains like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, can be seen from a height of eight thousand meters.

It is also believed that the local shepherds lost hundreds of their sheep while grazing at the same place where the temple stands today. The troubled shepherds had a dream in which the goddess ordered them to carry out ritualistic sacrifice of sheep and build a shrine in her honour. When the sacrifice was offered, the lost herd suddenly returned back. The practise of offering sacrifices inside the temple is believed to have started after the incident.
