Tamang Heritage Trail Trek
Itinerary
Your Journey, Step by Step
Trek from Syabru Besi to Gatlang
After having our delicious breakfast, we will begin our trek and pass through Goljung while traveling from Syabru Besi to Gatlang (2238m). Along the trail, we will see a number of Buddhist Chortens and Mani walls which add another dimension to this picturesque landscape. The enriching culture at Goljung and Gatlang makes our journey an unforgettable one.
Gatlang, towering on a hillside among the terraced fields is a Tamang community. Besides its obvious cultural richness and stunning location, Gatlang also boasts a 100-year-old Tamang monastery and the secret lake, Parvati Kunda. Legend says that this lake was identified in ancient times while the King of Gatlang was on his way to find a missing hunting dog. It is now worshipped by women for its apparent power to increase fertility. Overnight in Gatlang.
Trek from Gatlang to Tatopani
Today, we will begin our walk by descending to Thangbuchet, by a lovely river, and soak in magnificent views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang Ranges along the way. After lunch, the trek ascends again, across a hanging bridge and climbing to Tatopani, our stop for the night. The town’s name literally means ‘hot water’ in Nepali and there are towns of this name all over Nepal. Unsurprisingly, here you can enjoy the natural hot springs that come straight out of the ground. Locals believe that the water has a healing quality and will certainly ease away any aches and pains from the trek.
Trek from Tatopani to Nagthali and then Thuman
After having our breakfast, we will begin our trek to Nagthali. En route, we may confront animals like monkeys and deer. The all-around view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, and Sanjen ranges can be sharply experienced from Nagthali. Nagthali used to be a popular reflection center for the local monks and priests. Another cultural village, Thuman, is famous for its Shamanic performances and beautiful view of Langtang. Majestic views of the mountains can be seen from every house in Thuman. People from Thuman will comfort you by singing and dancing. If you want then you can also join them. They will help you feel at home in their welcoming environment. Overnight in Thuman.
Trek from Thuman to Bridim
We can understand the village life of Briddim and relish a cultural show performed by community members. We can also experience a homestay and Tamang culture. To mention a little about Briddim, it is a Tibetan Buddhist village in the chest of Langtang Himal. Around 43 houses are dispersed in a Z shape. Most of the houses are made up of stone and have roofs of split shacks. As a direct offspring of ancient Tibetan immigrants, the culture and tradition of Briddim closely feature that of Tibetan villages. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge with all meals.
Trek from Bridim to Syabru Besi
We trek from Briddim to Syabru Besi via Wangel. This day, the trek moves along a gently downward path passing through villages, terraces, and magnificent views of surrounding hills. Passing through paddy and corn fields, accompanied by the beautiful view of Langtang Lirung (7,227m) and Ganesh Himal (7,422m) in the background, we finally descend to our destination. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge with all meals.
Drive back to Kathamndu
After breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu from Syabru Besi. We will experience a lovely drive back to Kathmandu with awe-inspiring views of hills, mountains, terraces, and villages. We drive along the unpaved road to Betrawati and we begin to follow the narrow well-paved highway. On reaching Kathmandu, we can have some rest and be fresh. You can then roam around Thamel at night to chill out a bit. We will have a farewell Nepali Cuisine dinner at Thamel. Overnight at the hotel.
