Samagaon is an important point in the itinerary, where an acclimatization day helps your body adjust before you continue toward Samdo and Dharamsala. From there, the route reaches its highest point at Larkya La before descending toward Bimthang and eventually Dharapani and Besisahar.

Manaslu Circuit Trek 14 days Itinerary
Day 1: Kathmandu to Machha Khola
Your Manaslu Circuit adventure begins with a long drive from Kathmandu to the trek’s starting point, Machha Khola. The journey follows winding mountain roads alongside rivers, green hills, terraced farmland, and small settlements. After 7-8 hours of driving, you reach Machha Khola. After checking into a teahouse, you can rest and prepare for the first day of trekking.
Day 2: Machha Khola to Jagat
From Machha Khola, you officially begin walking along the Budhi Gandaki River. The trail passes through forests, small settlements, waterfalls, and several suspension bridges. You’ll encounter a mix of gradual climbs and descents as the valley narrows and becomes more dramatic. The day ends at Jagat, a traditional stone-paved village and an important checkpoint for entering the Manaslu region.
Day 3: Jagat to Deng
The trail continues deeper into the Budhi Gandaki Valley, with the landscape gradually becoming more mountainous. You’ll walk around 6-7 hours through forests and traditional villages while crossing suspension bridges over the river. As you reach Deng, the surrounding valley becomes narrower, and the Himalayan environment begins to feel more noticeable.
Day 4: Deng to Namrung
Today’s trek takes you further into the upper Manaslu region. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki through forests and rugged mountain terrain before climbing toward Namrung. Along the way, you’ll notice a stronger Tibetan influence in the architecture, prayer flags, mani walls, and Buddhist traditions. As the elevation increases, views of the surrounding mountains become more impressive.
Day 5: Namrung to Lho
The landscape changes significantly as you continue toward the higher villages. The trail passes through forests and open mountain terrain, with increasingly impressive views of Manaslu and surrounding peaks. You’ll pass traditional settlements and Buddhist landmarks before reaching Lho, a beautiful mountain village with spectacular Himalayan views.
Day 6: Lho to Samagaon
Today you continue toward Samagaon, one of the most important villages on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. The trail passes through alpine landscapes, forests, and traditional Tibetan-influenced settlements. After 4-5 hours of walking, you reach Samagaon. Once you arrive, you can explore the village and relax before your acclimatization day.
Day 7: Acclimatization day
Today is set for acclimatization rather than a long trek. Instead of spending the entire day resting, you can take a short hike around the Samagaon area. Birendra Lake, Manaslu Base Camp, or Pungyen Gompa are popular options depending on your fitness, weather, and itinerary. The day allows your body to adjust to the increasing altitude before continuing toward Samdo and Larkya La.
Day 8: Samagaon to Samdo
Today, your trek continues towards Samdo, one of the highest settlements on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. It takes approx. 3-4 hours of walking. The trail climbs through a dry and increasingly barren landscape, with fewer trees and more open mountain terrain. This is a short walking day, so you have time to rest and explore Samdo after arrival.
Day 9: Samdo to Dharamsala
The trek continues from Samdo towards Dharamsala, also known as Larkya Phedi, where you spend the night. The landscape becomes more rugged and barren as you move deeper into the high-altitude zone. Since the next day is the most demanding part of the trek, use the afternoon to rest, hydrate, and follow the guide’s advice for the early start.
Day 10: Dharamsala to Larkya La Pass to Bhimthang
Today is the longest and most challenging day of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. You’ll start very early to cross the Larkya La Pass (5,106 m). The trail can be snowy depending on the season and weather conditions. From the pass, you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan Peaks.
After enjoying the view from the pass, you begin the long descent toward Bhimthang. The scenery changes dramatically as you leave the high-altitude terrain behind and enter green landscapes.
Day 11: Bhimtang to Tilije
After the challenging Larkya La crossing, today’s trail is mostly downhill. You’ll walk through forests, past rivers, waterfalls, and mountain villages. The dramatic transition from the high alpine environment to forested valleys makes this one of the scenic sections of the descent. Then, you reach Tilije, a traditional settlement surrounded by mountains and farmland.
Day 12: Tilije to Dharapani
Your trek continues downhill toward Dharapani. The trail passes through forests and villages before reaching areas with more road access and signs of greater settlement. Dharapani is an important point because the Manaslu Circuit connects with the Annapurna trekking region here.
Day 13: Dharapani to Besisahar
Today is the end of the main trekking section. Instead of continuing on foot, you’ll generally travel by road toward Besisahar, passing through mountain villages and river valleys along the way. Once you arrive in Besisahar, you can relax and enjoy your final evening in the lower hills.
Day 14: Besisahar to Kathmandu
Drive back to Kathmandu. The journey takes you through Nepal’s middle hills, following winding roads and passing rivers, villages, and terraced farmland. Once you reach Kathmandu, your 14-day Manaslu Circuit Trek officially comes to an end. Depending on your travel plans, you can spend the evening resting at your hotel or continue with your onward journey.
Why are acclimatization days in Samagaun and Samdo important?
Acclimatization days in Samagaun and Samdo are important because they help your body gradually adapt to the increasing altitude before the demanding Larkya La Pass crossing.

Samagaun (around 3,530 m/11,580 ft) is one of the main acclimatization stops on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. By this point, you have already gained considerable elevation from the lower Budhi Gandaki Valley, so spending an extra night at Samagaun gives your body time to adjust before heading toward Samdo, Dharamsala, and eventually Larkya La Pass.
During the acclimatization day, you can take a short hike to higher elevations around Samagaun and return to sleep at the same altitude.
Samdo (around 3,875 m/12,713 ft) provides another valuable adjustment period before heading toward Dharamsala (Larkya Phedi), around 4,460 m/14,633 ft, and crossing Larkya La Pass.
An extra night in Samdo helps you:
- Adapt further to the reduced oxygen level.
- Reduce the risk of altitude-related problems.
- Prepare your body for the rapid elevation gain ahead.
Safety and Altitude Tips for Manaslu Circuit Trek 14 days
Safety is an important part of the 14-day Manaslu Circuit Trek, especially as the trail reaches high altitudes and crosses the 5,000-meter Larkya La Pass.
- Trek at a steady pace: Avoid rushing, especially as you gain altitude. Walk at a comfortable pace and take regular breaks.
- Stay hydrated: Drink enough water throughout the day to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude.
- Follow acclimatization days: Use the planned acclimatization day in Samagaon to allow your body to adapt before going higher.
- Watch for altitude sickness: Be aware of symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual tiredness, or difficulty sleeping.
- Inform your guide: Tell your guide immediately if you feel unwell or notice any unusual symptoms during the trek.
- Do not ascend with serious symptoms: If altitude sickness becomes severe or symptoms worsen, descending to a lower altitude is important.
- Be prepared for changing weather: Mountain weather can change quickly, particularly around Dharamsala and Larkya La. Carry suitable layers and waterproof gear.
- Carry travel insurance: Make sure your insurance covers high-altitude trekking, emergency medical treatment, and helicopter evacuation where applicable.
