High Altitude Helicopter Operations and Safety
We run the world-famous AS350 B3 helicopter, tailored for high-altitude flights and a record breaker for Mount Everest summit landing. Our crew is well-experienced in high-altitude flights with years of flying experience in mountain terrain. All our aircraft are equipped with emergency oxygen and are safety-checked every day to have the best safety standards while operating above 5,000 meters altitude.
Private Small Group Experience - Up to 2 Travelers
Unlike normal helicopter charters of 4-5 persons, our luxury adventure limits high-altitude segments to a maximum of 2 persons per helicopter. It gives the utmost safety margins for landings above 5,000m, unrestricted windows to click pictures, and personal care by pilots. 4 people can be flown together till Lukla, but only 2 proceed further to Kalapatthar and Gokyo Lake for safety reasons.
Weather Dependence and Flexible Scheduling
Weather in the mountains is a hazard, and only possible under clear weather with over 5-kilometer visibility to guarantee safety. Optimal stable weather and mountain views are obtained on an early morning flight between 6-8 AM. We monitor the weather 24/7 and offer complimentary rescheduling without a rebooking fee if the weather is not up to standard. Be prepared to alter your schedule, as safety is our top priority for high-altitude flights.
Physical Conditioning and Altitude Planning
This helicopter tour is not tiring since no trekking is done, and therefore it is ideal for individuals of all ages and physical fitness. The sharp climb to 5,545m at Kalapatthar does, however, induce mild altitude effects of headache or shortness of breath. The landing process is minimized to the essentials (10-15 minutes) to avoid exposure to altitudes. Those with heart problems or respiratory illness are required to consult their doctors before booking.
What to Pack for High-Altitude Helicopter Landing
Temperatures at 5,545m are sub-freezing even in summer, and thus layered warm apparel is essential. Have everything warm clothing, including an overcoat, gloves, solid footwear, sunglasses, and suntan n lotion as UV light is powerful at high altitude. Bring cameras with spare batteries, as cold weather drains the energy levels rapidly. Do not carry heavy backpacks as the weight limit is on high-altitude flights. We provide a complete list of what to bring upon arrival.
Breakfast Experience at the World's Highest Hotel
Breakfast at the legendary Everest View Hotel, at 3,880m and nominally the world’s highest-altitude hotel, is included in the excursion. Enjoy international and Nepalese cuisine in front of views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam that complete the skyline through gargantuan panoramic windows. The cozy eating area is nice despite being at high altitude, and this luxury stopover is an added notch on the belt of the entire experience.
Photography Opportunities and Tips
This tour offers great photo opportunities at Kalapatthar and Gokyo Lake under changing light throughout the day. Bring spare camera batteries as the power is consumed rapidly when the weather is chilly. Our expert pilots pilot the helicopters to get the best mountain photographs and can suggest the safest photography angles for locations. The high-contrast skyline scene of Kalapatthar’s rugged terrain and Gokyo’s peaceful blue-green lakeside provides ample photo shoots.
Customization Options for Special Occasions
Full tour proposal, birthday, anniversary, or any other special celebration customization is also available with us. Private helicopter rentals allow customized flight routes, extended landing periods, special decorations, and champagne service at high altitudes. Surprise options, professional photography services, and personalized itineraries can be organized by our staff to create your perfect Himalayan celebration that will last forever.
Weight Restrictions and Passenger Limitations
90kg (200 lbs.) one-passenger weights are approved for helicopter maximum altitude safety and performance. Combined passenger weight and luggage cannot be more than 160kg per helicopter for flight security above altitudes of more than 5,000m. Proper fuel calculation, as well as safety, will rely on accurate weight declaration. These are limitations for best helicopter performance in thin air at high altitude, where every kilogram is crucial to guarantee flight safety.
